First of all let me say that I ordinarily don't write reviews. However I was so impressed I felt compelled to make an exception in this case. Secondly, I would like to thank the first two reviewers for giving me enough information on this product to make this purchase in confidence.
At the end of last summer the 17.5 HP motor in my 2003 MTD mower completely gave out. I had hoped that this last winter I could find a closeout model somewhat larger than my previous mower as I have a 2 acre yard. However, living in Alaska has it's disadvantages when it comes to hard goods and I never found a suitable replacement for under $2000, $2500 with a bagger. Estimates on rebuilding the 17.5 ran from 400 to 550. And local vendors wanted over 800 for a replacement 17.5 motor, nearly a grand for one similar to this.
Imagine my surprise when I found this 21 HP model for $539 with FREE shipping. I read the first 2 reviews, pulled the old motor to verify the shaft measurements and made the purchase. This was on Friday evening, Wednesday morning I got a call from my wife telling me that my motor had arrived via FEDEX (all the way to Alaska).
It was very well packaged and very complete. One thing that was not mentioned is that the mounting holes were not pretapped I took the motor to a local machinist and had the holes tapped to fit my mounting bolts. An hour of work later (I own an air rachet) and my mower was on the yard for a test run. Imagine plug-and-play motors. It was really that simple.
Thanks again Amazon, and those that reviewed before me.

This was an upgrade from a 12 Hp Briggs & Stratton motor. It was bigger than I was looking for but for the price it was great. It fit perfect on my old riding mower. Starts and runs great. I do wish Briggs & Stratton would of shipped more information on the wiring. I did have to do some digging on there site to find the right PDF file on the wiring hook up. Last, I do have to say that the prompt shipping by Amazon was an added plus.
